Start with a controlled technical package

The working team should receive the latest approved single line diagram, route plan, structure schedule, equipment specifications and relevant utility standards. Drawing revisions need a simple control process so that superseded information does not remain in use at site.

The work order should identify supply boundaries, civil interfaces, testing responsibility, shutdown support, permissions and documentation. Assumptions made during quotation should be resolved before material procurement or field execution.

Confirm route and site conditions

• Complete a route walkover and record access restrictions, road or service crossings, existing utilities and site hazards.
• Confirm land access and right-of-way responsibilities with the client and relevant authorities.
• Review foundation and structure requirements against actual soil and ground conditions.
• Agree safe storage, lifting and material movement arrangements before delivery.

Plan utility interfaces

Inspection stages, outage or shutdown requirements, witness points and energisation authority should be agreed early. The latest requirements of the relevant distribution or transmission utility take precedence over general guidance.

Where a statutory inspection or approval applies, the responsible party and submission documents should be recorded in the project plan. Electrical installations must also be considered against the current Central Electricity Authority safety regulations and applicable state requirements.

Prepare the handover record

• Approved and as-built drawings
• Material inspection and test records
• Earthing, continuity and applicable electrical test results
• Inspection observations and closure records
• Energisation or handover approvals applicable to the work
